What I Do
What I do tells you who I am...
Speaker
2008 - present
From time to time, I do speaking engagements for events, groups, and/or schools. I have done workshops for adolescents, been a guest speaker for NEDA's (National Eating Disorder Association) Philadelphia Walk to raise eating disorder awareness and advocate for recovery, and I have presented Blueprints of Grief - a talk on grief and loss after suicide - at Kutztown University.
I have also also been on TV several times for several different reasons.
- Original Airdate 02/04/2013: I was featured on WFMZ - Channel 69 in Nancy Werteen's Life Lessons segment on eating disorders. You can watch the clip here: http://www.wfmz.com/lifestyle/Life-Lessons/Girls-face-eating-disorders/18396864
- Original Airdate 05/04/2016: Scientists say how happy you are has to do with a combination of your genes, your behaviors and your life circumstances. But can you influence how happy you feel? In Life Lessons, WFMZs Nancy Werteen begins a new series called Wisdom Wednesday starting with the subject of happiness. She sits down with a dozen Lehigh Valley women to ask them what they've learned about different subjects including joy and what advice they would give to other women about how to live the most joyful life possible. Here are their responses to the question of joy.

- Original Airdate 05/11/16: It's no secret that many women struggle at times with their self esteem. Some studies say as many as 90 percent of women admit to having a negative self image at one time or another. So we asked Lehigh Valley women what self love means to them and what they want other women to know about it. See the clip here: http://www.wfmz.com/lifestyle/Life-Lessons/life-lessons-wisdom-wednesdays-self-love/39485518
- Original Airdate 06/01/16: "One thing we can be certain about in life is that things will change. But change can be challenging and difficult. In her continuing series Wisdom Wednesday, WFMZ’s Nancy Werteen looks at the subject of change and what it means to different people. Some people see change as an opportunity-others as a catastrophe. We asked a group of women to reflect on the meaning of change in their lives both at home and in the workplace." See the clip here: http://www.wfmz.com/lifestyle/Life-Lessons/life-lessons-wisdom-wednesday-change/39787004
- Original Airdate 06/06/2016: Why do some women feel a need to be perfect? How can they change those ideas? Perfectionism is defined as a refusal to accept anything short of perfect. it’s a pretty difficult goal yet many women try to attain in. Where does the feeling that we need to be perfect come from? Why do so many women struggle it? And how can we change that mindset that sets us up for failure? We asked a number of women and here are their answers. See the clip here: http://www.wfmz.com/lifestyle/Life-Lessons/life-lessons-wisdom-wednesday-perfectionism/39917878
- Original Airdate 06/15/16: "Why is forgiveness so difficult? Mental health experts say humans are hard wired to retaliate when they’ve been wronged but they also say that doesn’t serve us well at all. They say the better thing to do is to forgive and move on even in the worst of circumstances. A group of Lehigh Valley women reflect on this topic as part of our Wisdom Wednesday series. Many of the women involved in this series are part of a new Lehigh Valley group called The Wisdom Coalition, thewisdomcoalition.com ." See the clip here: http://www.wfmz.com/lifestyle/Life-Lessons/life-lessons-wisdom-wednesday-forgiveness/40028306
- Original Airdate 06/22/16: "How do you define success in your life? Is it something about your personal relationships or your professional career? We asked some Lehigh Valley women to reflect on this question and found success can be defined in many ways." See the clip here: http://www.wfmz.com/lifestyle/Life-Lessons/life-lessons-wisdom-wednesdays-success/40169472
- Original Airdate 06/29/16: "There are things in our lives that become pretty clear to us after awhile and these lessons learned can be close to our hearts. In our Wisdom Wednesday segment this week, we ask, "What do you know for sure?" See the clip here: http://www.wfmz.com/lifestyle/Life-Lessons/Life-Lessons-Wisdom-Wednesday-What-I-know-for-sure/40240788

Hospice Social Worker MSW, LSW
July 2015 - present
I love my job. I help hospice patients and their families complete unfinished business, get plans and affairs in order, provide them with counseling and support, and walk with them through the process of grief and loss...all with the understanding that while people are dying, they are still living. I help with anticipatory grief, financial concerns, complicated family dynamics, and advocate for patients and families in all aspects of life.
I drive around home to home, going into skilled nursing facilities and assisted living facilities, and hospitals too. I have the privilege of sitting with people in their own environment. I have the honor of being part of a sacred and private time. I drive around independently in beautiful areas of the Lehigh Valley with my music as a guide and mechanism to help me process each patient before moving on to the next. I am lucky to have the position I have and I am lucky to do what I do.
I enjoy continuing to learn about the field of grief and loss. I enjoy helping others. But most of all, I enjoy learning from the people I meet every day.

Eating Disorder Support Group Leader
June 2008 - present
I lead an eating disorder support group in the Lehigh Valley and have for the last 8 years. The group is all female, serving people of all ages and from all walks of life. The group is free of charge, no insurance or private pay necessary. I am passionate about providing a safe space for women to receive support and speak about a serious issue. All referrals and interested members are screened by me before possible admission to the group, and the location is not public for safety reasons. I speak with interested persons via email or phone.

Adjunct Faculty, Marywood University Graduate School of Social Work
August 2015 - present
I am an off-site field instructor for MSW (masters in social work) students, providing weekly supervision. I am also a faculty liaison for MSW field students, facilitating meetings with graduate students and their field instructors on-site at their field placements to ensure a quality experience and to assist with any problems or questions that arise. I have the privilege of reading student assignments and offering feedback as well. I am proud to give back to the Graduate School of Social Work where I received my own graduate degree.

A Look at My Art
Over the years, I've done quite a bit of art. Though this video doesn't display any recent work, it's a good indication of what I created in the past.
